Chances of A DUI Increase with Holiday Celebrations

On Behalf of Law Offices of Thomas Maynard Dec. 30, 2019

The holiday season is a time for spending time with friends and family and celebrating the season. On occasion, these get-togethers include alcohol, and people may not be aware of how alcohol impacts their ability to drive. Additionally, one may lose track of how much he or she has had to drink before getting behind the wheel of a car. Driving after having too many drinks can result in an arrest for DUI in Tennessee.

Such an incident occurred near Nashville on a recent Friday evening. A two-car collision resulted in the death of a young woman. According to police reports, a woman was driving south at an alleged high rate of speed and crashed into a vehicle making a left-hand turn out of a parking lot. The first vehicle hit a telephone pole, and the passenger was severely injured. She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later died as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the car faces charges of vehicular homicide while under the influence. In addition, the driver was reportedly driving on a suspended license that had been revoked as a result of a prior DUI conviction. Other charges include evading arrest and fleeing the scene of a fatal accident.

Facing DUI charges, particularly when a fatality is involved, can be very unsettling in Tennessee. It is worth remembering that anyone accused of a crime in Tennessee is presumed innocent until and unless found guilty in a court of law. It can be beneficial to the accused to be aware of all of his or her rights in such a situation. A knowledgeable criminal defense attorney can advise the client of his or her rights and legal options.
