DUI can have long-lasting ramifications

Drinking and driving is never a good idea. While DUI is a violation of the law in Tennessee, it also poses a significant danger to the driver and others nearby. The holiday season is here and while that is no excuse, it does mean that there may be more drivers arrested for driving under the influence.

A recent arrest occurred when Greenville police arrested a man driving a pickup truck on Old Stage Road. The police reported smelling alcohol as they approached the vehicle following a traffic stop. The driver allegedly had difficulty locating his wallet to produce his license and registration. The officers asked the driver if he knew where he was, and he reportedly claimed that he was at home. The officers say they asked the driver to perform a field sobriety test and then say that they subsequently stopped the test for the person's own safety.

A blood alcohol test was said to show a blood alcohol level nearly five times above the legal limit. The driver said he was driving his father's truck because a sobriety checking device installed on his own truck had caused a mechanical problem. The driver was remanded to jail with no bond pending his first court appearance. It is the driver's second arrest for drunk driving.

Facing drunk driving charges can be a scary and sobering experience. A drunk driving conviction can have serious ramifications on one's ability to make a living and succeed in today's society in Tennessee. Someone facing charges for DUI could benefit from seeking the advice of a criminal law attorney who can ensure that one is aware of all of one's rights and that those rights are upheld in a court of law.
